[Dear CareerBabe...]

Dear CareerBabe:

I'm interested in hospital and healthcare public relations. Is this a growing field and worth looking into? What would salaries be for entry level jobs? What kind of education is best? And last, what areas of the country have the most jobs?

Signed:
PR Priscilla

Dear Priscilla:

You asked many questions at once. Very efficient! First of all, if you type the word "salaries" into the "InfoSeek" search engine, did you know you will find 184,432 hits? WOW! So, to get you started in the right direction, here are some clues:

First, there's an organization called Public Relations Society of America, or PRSA. Their web site is http://www.prsa.org and they completed a salary survey in 1996 which is at: http://www.prsa.org/survey96.html.

Second, I would investigate healthcare associations by going to the library and consulting the Directory of Associations. Call those in healthcare or PR that interest you.

Third, try this URL: http://www.yahoo.com/Health/Health_Care/Organizations/

Fourth, since you did not specify the exact area of healthcare that you are interested in, I am wondering if you want hospital HMO, hospice or outpatient facility PR jobs. To investigate which jobs have the BEST opportunities, you might try searching this site:

http://www.bradley.edu/irt/lib/services/access/career.html

which is a guide to print resources on the best jobs and cities to live in.

Last, but not least, go to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Information, which will give you plenty of information on the hottest job projections throughout the country.

Hope this helps get you started!
